Welcome to the SCCD Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Training
website.
The Spokane County Conservation District (SCCD) developed this
on-line certification program for the training of water quality testing
volunteers. The training courses allow water quality volunteers to become
prepared for testing activities and achieve certification as a volunteer
water quality monitor. In addition, the website provides information about
the many water quality issues facing watersheds in the Spokane region.
This training website is part of the SCCD's Volunteer Water Quality
Monitoring Program. The Program seeks to work with watershed residents, lake
and watershed associations, schools and universities, and any others
interested in watershed protection and enhancement efforts. The program
involves training and certification of volunteers, hands-on water quality
monitoring, restoration projects, and on-going observation of water quality
and ecosystem health.
For more information on this program or other ways to be involved in
protecting water quality, contact Dan Ross, Volunteer Coordinator, at (509)
535-7274 ext. 31 or at Dan-Ross@sccd.org
or visit the
Water Resources Volunteer Program page on the SCCD's website. |

The training courses introduce volunteers to water quality
terminology and testing equipment, and provide a detailed education in water
quality parameters, proper testing procedures, and testing safety. The
online courses are designed as short, individual segments. This allows the
courses to be completed individually in any order, at any pace. To begin,
register as a volunteer student.
Study the materials provided in each training course and take the
test. Once all courses and tests have been successfully completed, a
Volunteer Water Quality Monitor certificate will be issued and you can
contact the Volunteer Coordinator to join the volunteer team. |

The Spokane County Conservation District
works in partnership with individuals, landowners, businesses and
government to protect water resources, promote energy conservation, expand
options for agricultural production, promote sustainble forestry practices
and protect wildlife habitat throughout the urban and rural areas of the
Spokane region. The idea behind Conservation Districts is that local people
know best how to handle conservation problems in their own region. Emphasis
is on educating landowners on how to use their land wisely and encourage
voluntary cooperation to achieve conservation of our natural resources. As a
non-regulatory subdivision of state government, the SCCD says simply; "We're
not here to tell you what to do, we're here to advise you what you can do".
